Record Store Day and Castle Road Fair

Posted by Jo Rivers at

Fretfunk joined in with a local event at Castle Road last weekend as part of Record Store Day 2016.

We have been travelling around the country to Guitar Shows for the past few years but this the first event we have attended on our doorstep!  It was great to get out in the local community and show some of our innovative products without having to drive for four or five hours first.

As an online business we trade all over the world and we realised we are more well known in the USA than in our local town so we decided to do something about this.

The local independent record store Pie and Vinyl were participating in World Record Day and this brought a great deal of music lovers to the street over the weekend.  The queues started early on Saturday and the street had a buzz about it all weekend. There are a great number of interesting businesses in Castle Road alongside the local entrepreneurs and market traders it made for a bustling weekend in the street.

Not surprisingly our most popular seller over the weekend was our custom design Southsea Guitar Picks, however there was also interest in our straps, coloured strings and picture rail guitar hangers.  We also showcased a brand new product, our "tribute" to Lemmy - Ace of Spades Guitar Strap Locks.

As well as meeting many other local businesses and soaking up a bit of sunshine, we had the opportunity to hear live music from bands both local and some all the way from Southampton!  It was great to hear Band of Skulls playing in Portsmouth.  We also enjoyed acts such as Smoke Faries, Plastic Mermaids, Emptifish and Sink or Soar, and Misgivings.

We had such a great weekend we will do it all again next time.  Thanks to all those who came along and showed their support.
